Courses
The Vintners Institute Academy (VIA) courses are designed to cater to wine industry incumbent workers who want to gain general knowledge of the industry and/or level-up their knowledge of a specific area. All courses are 100% asynchronous, meaning learners can complete the course on their own time, following the weekly schedule.
Each course requires approximately 3-4 hours of work per week, and includes weekly quizzes to test your knowledge and instructor-led group discussions to deepen your knowledge of the content.
VIA 1: Introduction to Winegrowing
Explore winegrowing technology through VIA1. This 5-week online course provides an overview of growing, making, and selling wine from the winery perspective. You'll come away with a solid understanding of the essential vocabulary, processes and practices, and career pathways at a vineyard or winery. In addition, we'll cover a bit of the history and culture of wine. This course is intended to provide base-level instruction for new hires, incumbent workers, entrepreneurs, and wine enthusiasts.

VIA 2: Four Seasons of Grape Growing
This course is designed to immerse you in the language of viticulture. You will learn everything from vineyard site selection and design, to grapevine physiology & phrenology, to sustainable farming practices.

VIA 3: Seven Stages of Winemaking
This course is designed to immerse you in the language of wine production. It covers the stages of wine production and quality assurance, while focusing on sustainability and operations best practices. By the end of the course you will understand winemaking job roles and speak the language of fine wine production.

VIA 4: Selling with a Sense of Place
This course is designed to immerse you in the language of wine service for a winery establishment, focusing on an appreciation of terroir as a key element of being a tasting room ambassador. During the course, you will learn basic wine appreciation, tasting best practices and etiquette, responsible beverage service, and the legal and regulatory environment of the wine business.
